Profile
- OCD CBT COACH-
Kan
I am a certified behavioral therapist recognized by the Japanese Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. I have extensive experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), having worked with over 800 clients of all ages, from 5 to 80 years old. I address a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), schizophrenia, and more. My primary focus is on providing CBT for OCD and phobias.
Why Did GO-EN Choose Online Therapy?
I have spent many years providing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in face-to-face settings such as hospitals and schools, particularly for clients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). CBT, especially Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), has been proven to be highly effective in treating OCD, often resulting in significant symptom improvement within just a few months.
However, many clients struggle with anxiety and fear in non-clinical environments, such as at home, in stores, or other public spaces, making it challenging to practice ERP on their own in these situations.
Tailoring ERP to each individual's specific circumstances and anxiety levels is crucial for effectively addressing their symptoms. Some individuals with OCD create "sanctuaries," where they feel they can maintain cleanliness. When fears of contamination arise, they may engage in rituals, such as excessive cleaning of themselves and their surroundings.
In my sessions, we often discuss incorporating ERP related to their sanctuaries as part of their homework. While it takes courage for clients to complete ERP in the places they fear most, I understand that this process can take time.
This is where online therapy offers a unique advantage. By providing support in real-time, we can address anxiety as it arises in the client's specific context—"right here, right now." This approach allows us to work through their OCD symptoms more effectively and in a shorter time frame.
Numerous studies show that online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is just as effective as face to face CBT, with the added benefits of increased flexibility and convenience. This means that you can participate from the comfort of your own home or office, at a time that suits your other commitments. All you need is access to an Internet connection.
